Verna M. Peachey

BELLEVILLE – Verna M. Peachey, 94, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Haven.

She was born on April 11, 1919, a daughter of the late Jonathan and Mary (Yoder) Kanagy. Her first husband, Lee U. Yoder, preceded her in death on March 9, 1950. Her second husband, Thomas E. Peachey, preceded her in death on April 4, 1980.

Surviving are: her children, Anne M. Brenneman and husband, Frank, of Hillsboro, Kan., Mary Ellen Yoder and husband, Harvey L., of Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada, and L. Marlin Yoder and wife, Twila J., of Belleville; stepchildren, Virginia Spicher and husband, John, of Harrisonburg, Va., Thomas Lee Peachey and wife, Faith, of Saint Albert, Alberta, Canada, and Ruth Emswiler and husband, David, of Harrisonburg, Va.; eight grandchildren, Lawrence, William, Michael, Calvin, Gregg, Jeffrey, Randy and Emily; eight stepgrandchildren, Rene, Jen, James, Julia, Jeff, Thomas Jr., Richard and Cathy; 16 great-grandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grand

children; and brother, Jonathan Kanagy, of Belleville.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Lina Peachey, Elizabeth Yoder, Mary Peachey and Amanda Kanagy, and by two brothers, Amandus Kanagy and Aaron Kanagy.

She was involved with the family farm for a number of years. She then was employed at Vogt’s Garment Factory in Allensville. Lastly, she worked at Valley View Haven in the laundry department until her retirement.

She was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for a number of years. She participated in the Ladies Sewing Circle at the church, was involved in the Stephens Ministry and with the ministry team that went to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility. She enjoyed gardening and arranging flowers as well as quilting.

A funeral service will be held in her memory at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, with Pastors Max Zook and Gerald Peachey officiating. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Henderson Funeral Home.
