Matthew S. Shertzer
ELIZABETHTOWN – Matthew S. Shertzer, 36, of Elizabethtown and formerly of Mifflintown, died on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home.
Born on March 23, 1977, in Lancaster, Lancaster County, he was a son of Audrey J. (Myer) Shertzer Hollinger, of Lititz, and the late James D. Shertzer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by: his stepfather, Jay L. Hollinger, of Lititz; siblings, Karen Diffenderfer, of New Bloomfield, Mike Shertzer and his wife, Amy, and Kathy Burns and her husband, Jake, all of Mifflintown; and nieces and nephews, Ryan and Bradly Diffenderfer, Caleb, Colton, Hannah and Hailie Shertzer, and Carly and Zoe Burns.
Matthew was a graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown, and Penn State University.
For 10 years, he had been employed by the Milton Hershey School, Hershey, with the student activities department.
Matt enjoyed hunting and he was an avid Penn State Sports fan; however, his true passion was history, especially the Civil War.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Ken Hepner officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown.
There will be no viewing; however, family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
