Howard K. ‘Grub’ Sowers
PITTSBURGH – Howard K. “Grub” Sowers, 83, of 273 Newton Road, Newton Hamilton, went to be with the Lord at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the UPMC-Pittsburgh.
He was born on April 8, 1930, the son of the late Merle H. and Beulah (Mills) Sowers.
His wife, Erma E. (Norton) Sowers, survives along with their three children, William H. Sowers and wife, Karla, of Allenport, Mount Union, Shirley D. Chilcote, of Rockhill Furnace, and Lori Hoffman, of Newton Hamilton.
He is also survived by two sisters, Blanche Snyder, of Rockhill Furnace, and Helen Moore, of Monroe Valley, Three Springs.
Mr. Sowers was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Donald Sowers, and by two sisters, Betty Sourbeck and Keulah Sowers.
He was retired from New Holland Machine Co., Belleville.
Mr. Sowers was a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church, the Country Crossroads Community Center and sang with the Fourfold Gospel Quartet.
There will be a public memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Brian Myfelt officiating.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with interment in the Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
