Eunice W. Hackenberger

THOMPSONTOWN – Eunice Winey Hackenberger, 73, of Thompsontown, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at the Lewistown Hospital. She was the wife of Charles L. Hackenberger to whom she was married 46 years.

Eunice was born on March 28, 1940, in Richfield, a daughter of the late Guy S. and Ruby (Hood) Winey. She was a 1959 graduate of Middleburg Joint High School and furthered her education by obtaining her beautician license. Eunice was employed at the East Salem Shirt Factory, the former Schell Restaurant, Cocolamus, and retired from Highmark Blue Shield, Camp Hill. She also assisted her husband with the family farm, and cleaned local churches. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Richfield. Eunice enjoyed the outdoors, watching the various wildlife at the family farm, and was an accomplished artist in oil paintings.

In addition to her loving husband, Eunice is survived by a son, Bradley D. Hackenberger, Ph.D., of Thompsontown; a stepgranddaughter, Richelle; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores “Dolly” and Jay Guyer, of Thompsontown, Janice and David Leitzel, of Richfield, and Clarice and Daniel Fox, of Mount Pleasant Mills; a brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Debbie Winey, of Mt. Pleasant Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hackenberger was preceded by her son, Eric Hackenberger, on January 19, 2009, a brother, Herbert Winey, and a sister in early childhood, Shirley Winey.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, until the Service of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., all from St. John Lutheran Church, Route 35 and Church Street, Richfield. Officiating will be her pastor the Rev. Andrew C. Weaver. Burial will be made in Maze Cemetery, Thompsontown.
