Doris E. Hench
MIFFLINTOWN – Doris E. Hench, 87, of Mifflintown, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Sept. 17, 1926, in Mifflintown, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Edward H. and Alva (Wise) Potter. On Oct. 13, 1947, she married her husband, Cyrus M. “Nip” Hench Sr., with whom she shared more than 48 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1996.
Surviving are: her children, Jean E. Huff, Brenda C. O’Neal and her husband, Donnie, and Cyrus M. Hench Jr. and his wife, Melissa, all of Mifflintown; one sister, Shirley Hughey, of Honey Grove; and she leaves behind eight precious grandchildren and five cherished, great-grandchildren, whom she treasured.
She was preceded in death by: one great-granddaughter, Cassandra Paden; one granddaughter, Rhonda Casner; one brother, Gary Potter; and three sisters, Jean Fry, Sadie Colyer and Joan Ritchey.
Mrs. Hench was a homemaker and a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown.
Doris had many interests including watching the birds from her back porch, camping, tending to her flowers and in earlier life, hunting with her husband “Nip.” She was an avid fan of Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed the companionship of the family’s yellow lab, Cherokee. The unconditional love she had for her family was evident to everyone.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Casey Hostler officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
The viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
