Alvin D. Yoder

BELLEVILLE – Alvin D. Yoder, 90, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Lewistown Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1923, in Belleville. Alvin was the son of the late Daniel A. and Fannie (Sharp) Yoder. Surviving him is his wife, Anna Margaret (Zook) Yoder, whom he married on March 11, 1953.

Also surviving are: children, Wanda J. Bender and husband, Amos, of TaVeres, Fla, Stanley A. Yoder and wife, Elizabeth, of McVeytown, Brenda F. Shoop, of Belleville, Sandra M. Newman and husband, Terry, of Penbrook, Nelson E. Yoder and wife, Debbie, of Nashville, Ten, and Barbara E. McCrea and husband, Andrew, of Enola; siblings Lee S. Yoder, of Reedsville, J. Ben Yoder and wife Peggy, of McVeytown, and Esther Lewis, of Allensville; sisters-in-law Betty Yoder, and Shirley Byler. Alvin is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Debra L. Yoder; son-in-law, David B. Shoop; six sisters, Sadie Peachey, Bertha Hostetler, Ella Byler, Edna Kauffman, Linda Spicher and Marian S. Yoder; two brothers Roman Yoder, and Frank Yoder.

Alvin was a retired truck driver, and was a taxi driver for the Amish for a number of years after his retirement.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, studying genealogy and hunting. He was a member of the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville.

A funeral service will be held in his memory at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, with Pastors Alan Kauffman and Herb Zook officiating. Burial will take place at Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the church.
