Mary J. Crimmel
MIFFLIN – Mary J. Crimmel, 89, of Mifflin, died at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at her home.
Born on Oct. 8, 1923, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Elsie C. (Brannon) Wertz.
On Dec. 4, 1945, she married her husband, Blair D. “Nub” Crimmel, with whom she shared more than 51 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on March 25, 1996.
She is survived by: her children, B. David Crimmel II and his wife, Paula, of Mifflintown, and Mary Catherine “Sue” Nace and her husband, Paul, of Mifflin; a brother, Ronald W. Wertz, of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Crimmel, and a sister, Joyce Leiter.
She was a 1941 graduate of Lewistown High School and a 1945 graduate of John Hopkins School of Nursing.
In 1985 she retired as a registered nurse from Lewistown Hospital with 31 years of service.
Mrs. Crimmel was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mifflin, where she had taught Sunday school, served as a Trustee and also served on the Altar Guild.
Mary enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading and her great passion was playing pinochle.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, with Pastor Gay Irwin officiating.
There will be no viewing.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly asks that memorial contributions in Mrs. Crimmel’s memory be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box F, Mifflin, PA 17058.
