Ellen M. Boova

BELLEVILLE – Ellen M. Boova, 83, of Lewistown, died at 1:36 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.

Born Dec. 21, 1929, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Elizabeth M. (Gaffney) Cox.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Boova, on Nov. 25, 2007.

Ellen is survived by her son, Christopher J. Boova and wife, Carrie, of New York, her grandchildren, Andrew Robert Boova and Matthew Isaac Boova, and her cat, Stormy.

After graduating from New York University, she received a commission in the U.S. Army Medical Officer Corps as a dietician. After achieving rank of Major, she resigned her commission and came to Lewistown to head the dietetics department at the Lewistown Hospital.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lewistown and was President of the Sacred Heart School Board during the 1970s.

She considered herself a lifelong New Yorker and was an avid reader of both the New York Post and Daily News. She never tired of discussing current events, with special interests in politics and foreign affairs, where her opinions were often strong.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with Father Michael Opoki officiating.

Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where graveside military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Heller- Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.

Ellen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her military service and her work at Lewistown Hospital. She was an animal lover.
