Carrie E. “Ellie” Smith

BURNHAM – Carrie E. “Ellie” Smith, 82, of Burnham, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at her home.

Born on Jan. 16, 1931, in Barrville, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Stella M. (Worrell) Royer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Frederick, Robert and Marlin Royer and John Bender, and three sisters, Betty Keiser, Gladys Seiler and Mary Henry.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Harold R. “Dick” Smith, whom she married on April. 11, 1959.

She is also survived by: a daughter, Elizabeth Kerstetter and husband, Thomas, of Vira; stepchildren, Brenda Reichert and husband, Wayne, of Whiteville, N.C., Vicki Bray and husband, Pete, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Deborah Gaul and husband, Gary, of Wrightsville; two grandchildren, Roxanne E. Kerstetter, of Pittsburgh, and Thomas E. Kerstetter Jr., of Bloomsburg; four stepgrandchildren; and siblings, Dorothy Bradley, of Burnham, Mildred Majestic, of Lewistown, Helen Strange, of Freemont, Calif., James Royer, of Lewistown, Edward Royer and wife, Shelley, of Burnham, Charles Royer, of Belleville, Ronald Royer and wife, Catherine, of Lewistown, and Glenn Royer and wife, Susan, of Yeagertown.

Ellie was a 1949 graduate of Burnham High School.

She was a bookkeeper for Atlantic States, Suburban Propane, and lastly, at Smith’s Gulf & Towing.

Presently, she was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church but had been a member and elder of Burnham Presbyterian Church.

Ellie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Girl Scouts, in Burnham.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was the happiest when she was with her family.

She loved her dog, Sammi and granddog, Summer.

Ellie’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 2013, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Little Valley Presbyterian Cemetery.
