Barbara B. Riden

LEWISTOWN – Barbara B. Riden, 80, of Lewistown died on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at Ohesson Manor.

Born on Dec. 25, 1932, in Batavia, New York, she was a daughter of the late Howard S. and A. Genevieve (Johnson) Bennett.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jay M. Riden, whom she married on August 6, 1955, in Morristown, New Jersey.

Also surviving are: her children, Karen Thomas and husband, John, of Oak Hill, Virginia, Janet Bryant and husband, Ronald, of Abington, Pennsylvania, and Dr. David Riden, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Bryant, of Abington and Gabrielle Riden, of Knoxville.

Barbara was a graduate of East High School, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She graduated from Temple University School of Nursing, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1953. She worked at Temple University Hospital from 1953 to 1955 as a registered nurse.

Barbara was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

She was a teaching assistant at Seventh Ward School for a number of years, volunteer of Meals on Wheels, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, Women’s Auxiliary to the Mifflin-Juniata County Medical Society, and a Girl Scout leader.

Barbara was an avid reader, and loved her beach house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, travel, crossword puzzles, playing bridge, classical music, and especially her friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Roth officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main Street, Lewistown or to Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.

All arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
