Martin Landis Eby
LITITZ – Martin Landis Eby, 78, formerly of Strasburg, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Landis Homes.
Martin was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Millwood, the son of the late Menno and Martha Landis Eby. His wife, Evelyn Mellinger Eby, whom he married on Aug. 10, 1957, preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2013.
He is survived by: a daughter, Brenda E., married to Max Zook, of Belleville; grandsons, Jonathan Zook, married to Adriene (Shank), and their son Connor, of Williamsport, Joseph Zook, married to Meredith Lorencz, of South Africa, James Zook, of Belleville, and Jason Hartley, of Alburtis; a brother, Menno Eby; and a sister, Ruth Gehman.
Martin was preceded in death by: a sister, Mae Hershey; brother-in-law, Sanford Hershey; sister-in- law, Marian Eby; and brother-in-law, Donald Gehman.
After working 30 years as a machinist at Ford New Holland, Martin retired and spent 15 years as a part- time employee at JB Zimmerman, in Strasburg. His grandsons were his pride and joy. He took pleasure in traveling, gardening, bird watching, hunting groundhogs and visiting with two Circle gangs.
He was a member of Strasburg Mennonite Church, where he served in various ways including church treasurer, usher and Sunday school teacher. He participated in numerous MDS work trips.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Hershey Mennonite Church, 401 Hershey Church Road, Kinzers, with Pastors Stephen Weaver and John Meck officiating. Interment will be at 9 a.m. Friday Aug. 9, in Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at the Bachman Funeral Home, 7 S. Decatur St., Strasburg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the church.
