Hubert H. ‘Herbie’ Stouffer

RICHFIELD – Hubert H. “Herbie” Stouffer, 87, of Richfield, entered his heavenly home at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 25, 1926, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Henry H. and M. May (Kauffman) Stouffer. On Sept. 23, 1951, he married Muriel F. (Ferster) Stouffer, with whom he shared nearly 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are: his children, Elizabeth Ann Aucker and her husband, Barry, of Watsontown, Thomas Stouffer and his wife, Cassi, of McAlisterville, Jonathan Stouffer and his wife, Karen, of Mifflintown, Mary Martin and her husband, Jerry, of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

One infant brother and one infant sister preceded him in death, making him the last of his generation.

Mr. Stouffer was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Mifflintown, and a former member of Richfield Mennonite Church, where he served as Sunday school secretary, belonged to the Heraldaires Quartet and the Men’s Trumpet Trio.

In earlier life, Hubert was a self-employed farmer, after which he worked at the Richfield Feed Mill. Then, until his retirement in 1988, he worked for Wood Mode Inc.

Hubert enjoyed music as a hobby and he always looked forward to hunting on the Tuscarora Mountain every fall.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Aaron Benner officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Richfield Mennonite Church, and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, at the church.
