Florence Troutman Young
McALISTERVILLE – Florence Troutman Young, 105, formerly of Millersburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 6 , 2013.
Born on June 18, 1908, in Lykens Township, she was a daughter of the late James M. and Katie M. (Beisel) Troutman.
She attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, Gratz.
She had worked for the former Muskin Shoe Factory, Millersburg, and made deliveries of milk for the former Troutman’s Dairy Farm, Lykens. She also raised and sold produce. At the age of 94, she wrote a book, “Growing up on a Farm in Lykens Valley.”
She was a charter member of the Central Pennsylvania Gospel Band, where she played the coronet, and was an avid gardener and quilter. She won many ribbons at the Port Royal Fair for both gardening and quilting. She made more than 100 quilts, most of which were given to family and friends.
Preceding her in death were: her husband, Clarence S. Young; three brothers, Albert, Paul and John Troutman; three sisters, Cora Barry, Irene Koppenhaver and Laura Reed; and one grandson, Eric Young.
She is survived by: daughters, Paula Nissley, of Leesburg, Fla., and Ruth Kauffman, of McAlisterville; sons, James Young, of Etters, Robert Young and wife, Pat, of Eagleville, and Richard Young and wife, Judy, of Elizabethville; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at her church.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church.
Burial will follow in God’s Missionary Church Cemetery, Luxemburg Road, Lykens.
