Betty Louise (Miner) Lacy

PITTSBURGH – On Aug. 19, 2013, our precious mom, Betty Louise (Miner) Lacy, went to heaven to be with our wonderful dad, Kenneth John Lacy.

Mom was born on June 29, 1919, in the village of Jefferson, Ohio, the only child of Doris Julia (Russell) and Fred Kendal Miner.

Growing up in the small village of Jefferson, Mom had an idyllic childhood, enjoying her friends and family, and particularly remembered the fun of spending time at her father’s business, Miner’s Tire Store, which was a friendly gathering place for young and old alike.

Mom graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937. After graduating from business college, she moved to Meadville, where she was employed in the offices of the American Viscose Company. That was where she met a handsome young man from Erie by the name of Kenneth John Lacy, who was to become the assistant plant manager of this large facility.

The two fell in love, were married in the Methodist Church in Jefferson on Sept. 30, 1946, and set up housekeeping in Meadville.

In August 1947, a son, Michael Fred, was born and in November 1954, a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, joined the family.

In 1958, Ken was promoted to plant controller at American Viscose in Lewistown, and the family relocated there.

Mom’s true career was as a housewife and stay-at- home mom. She took care of our family for 49 years at 9 Winding Way, Lewistown.

When she and Ken decided to downsize, they moved to Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community in Cranberry Township. Mom remained at Sherwood Oaks after Ken passed away on April 11, 2009.

Our Mom was truly devoted to her family and cared for us deeply. She did everything for us. Beth said it best, “When it came to the parental lottery, we really hit the jackpot!”

Mom is survived by Beth and Mike, in Pittsburgh, and two nieces, Katherine and Claire, in Washington, D.C.

Arrangements were by Devlin Funeral Home, of Cranberry, followed by a private service at Sherwood Oaks.
