Barbara L. Shirey

LEWISTOWN – Barbara L. Shirey, 80, of Lewistown, died at 11:04 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Golden LivingCenter – William Penn.

Born on July 14, 1933, in McClure, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Dorothy (Romig) Romig.

She is survived by: children, Gregory L. Shirey and wife, Teresa, Ruth Ann Kephart and husband, Terry, and Jack Andrew Shirey and wife, Marylin; daughter- in-law, Holly Bowen Shirey; nine grandchildren, Lindsay Stevens, Courtney Kephart, Teri Marie Kephart, Luke Shirey, Jennifer Price, Jessica Wilson, James Shirey, Brodie Shirey and Erin Beth Shirey; five great- grandchildren, Gracie, Aaden James, Jennica, Jason and Mikala; siblings, Richard Leon Romig and wife, Audrey, Larry Russell Romig and companion, Donna, Gary Lee Romig and wife, Wanda, Lucy Ann (Romig) Baker and husband, Bob, Donna Jean (Romig) Wray and husband, Donald, Shirley Jo (Romig) Shawver and husband, Darwin, Michael Reuben Romig and companion, Cindy, and Dennis Allen Romig and wife, Debra.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Shirey Sr., a son, James C. Shirey Jr, and two brothers, Theodore Roland Romig and Paul Leslie Romig.

She was a 1951 graduate of Lewistown High School.

Barbara was a member of Centre Union Church.

Earlier in life she was a seamstress and waitress. She worked at Arrow Shirt Factory, then retired from Scotty’s Fashions.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking, cooking, reading stories and providing treats for little ones.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Centre Union Church, with the Rev. Kurtis Swisher officiating.

Interment will take place in Mount Rock Cemetery.
