Reverend Ronald J. Lynch

LEWISTOWN – The Rev. Ronald J. Lynch, 77, of Lewistown, entered the kingdom of heaven on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Valley View Haven, in Belleville.

Father Ron was born on Aug. 21, 1935, in Lewistown, to Robert L. and Jeanette (Niemond) Lynch.

He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1953 and continued on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University in 1964. He received his Master of Divinity in 1967 from The Virginia Theological Seminary. He also earned a master’s degree from Shippensburg University in 1973. Mr. Lynch was also a 1984 graduate of the Mississippi State Police Academy. Ron also served in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves from 1956 through 1973.

Father Lynch served at The Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist, in York, from 1967 to 1969. He was the vicar at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, in Shippensburg, from 1969 to 1983. He also served as the chaplain at Mississippi State Penitentiary, in Parchman, Miss., from 1983 to 1986. Father Ron also served at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, in Huntingdon, from 1986 to 1990. From 1990 to 1997, Father Lynch was the vicar at Trinity Episcopal Church, in Hollidaysburg, as well as Trinity Episcopal Church, in Tyrone. He was priest in charge at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, in Lewistown, from 1998 to 1999, and again from 2001 to 2004 He also served on the commission of Ministry for The Diocese of Central Pennsylvania from 1996 to 1999.

He was deeply loved as a son, brother and uncle. He was well known for working with the youth of the diocese for many years at various retreats and camps. Reverend Lynch loved music and enjoyed singing in the choir from the time he was a young boy. He also enjoyed the sound of antique pipe organs, especially those at St. Andrew’s, in Shippensburg, and St. Mark’s, in Lewistown. He loved his church and his ministry.

In his spare time, Father Ron served as a substitute teacher in the Mifflin County School District, and enjoyed spending time with his family and his Alaskan Huskies, Tsunami and Fuji. He loved to travel and saw much of the world during his life including Japan, Denmark, Romania, China and many other countries.

Father Ron is survived by his brother, Robert N. Lynch, of Strodes Mills, and by three sisters, Marsha E. Mock, of Lewistown, Marilyn Lynch and husband, Rob Dickerson, of Reedsville, and Sharon Fike, of Lewistown.

“Uncle Ronnie” is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as a special friend, Miss Patricia Harrison, of Schellsburg.

Father Lynch was preceded in death by: his mother, Jeanette M. Lynch, in 1943; his father, Robert L. Lynch, in 1990; a brother, John F. Lynch, in 1994; a brother-in-law, Jack W. Mock, in 1997; and his stepmother, Frances L. Lynch, in 1999.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, with the Right Rev. Nathan D. Baxter officiating.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 24, and again from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church. Interment will be in St. Marks Cemetery, in Lewistown.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Heller- Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
