Margaret E. (Page) Leister
McALISTERVILLE – Margaret E. (Page) Leister, 102, of McAlisterville, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on April 10, 1911, in Sunbury, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late John and Ida (Rothermal) Sierer. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul S. Page, on July 16, 1951, and by her second husband, Guy P. Leister, on Oct. 23, 1977.
Surviving are: her children, Gary Page, of McAlisterville, and Lois Hockenbrock and her husband, C. Robert, of Richfield; a sister, Helen Shaffer, of Summerdale; seven grandchildren, Crystal Huntzinger, Jill Mabe, Scott Page, Barbara Sheaffer, Natalie Page, Terri North, and Beth Ehrisman; and she leaves behind 15 great- grandchildren.
One grandson, Steven Hockenbrock, and five siblings, Elsie Klose, Lester Sierer, Russell Sierer, Robert Sierer and Marlin Sierer preceded her in death.
Mrs. Leister was, at one time, a very active member of Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville, Order of the Eastern Star, Mifflin Chapter 260, Mifflintown, Lady Lafayette Rebekah Lodge, McAlisterville, and for many years handled reservations for the McAlisterville Community Building.
Earlier in life, she and her sister, Elsie, owned and operated La Pompadour Salon. After her marriage, she was a homemaker for many years until the passing of her first husband, when she became the owner of Page Apartments, McAlisterville, until 2012.
Margaret belonged to many area card clubs and loved to spend time fishing. She enjoyed taking bus trips to many different places and was well-known for her sense of humor, and also for the colorful flowers she planted in her flower boxes. In spite of her many interests, her greatest love was her family and the many family gatherings held over the years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Revs. Erin Bovendam and Walter Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly asks that memorial donations in Mrs. Leister’s memory be made to her church, the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 91, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
