Surviving are: four daughters, Debra J. Finkenbinder and her husband, James, of Carlisle, Donna M. Albaugh and her husband, William, Rhonda K. Fry and her husband, Mark, all of Mifflintown, and Wanda R. Lindsey and her companion, Pete Fasnacht, of Port Royal; one former son-in-law, Bill Lindsey, of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat- grand-children.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Helen Gearhart, Janet Hershberger and Dorothy Mowry, as well as two brothers, Ed Hammer and Clair Hammer, making him the last of his generation.
Mr. Hammer was a 1949 graduate of Schellsburg-Napier Joint High School in Bedford County and a member the New Beginning Church, Spruce Hill.
In earlier life, he was employed as a foreman for Hoosier Engineering and later retired from Sarge Engineering and Surveying, Mifflintown.
Fred had a gift for restoring old trucks and, at one time, was a true “truck farmer” because he, his wife and daughters raised and sold fresh fruits and vegetables.
Being a true outdoorsman, he also enjoyed gardening, hunting and traveling with his beloved family and friends. However, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating. Interment will be held in the East Waterford Cemetery.
