A. Miriam Swartz
RICHFIELD – A. Miriam Swartz, 90, of Richfield, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born Dec. 23, 1922, in Monroe Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Earl S. and Emma (Graybill) Ferster. On Nov. 23, 1945, she married her late husband, M. Stanley Swartz, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2003.
Surviving are: her children, David S. Swartz and his wife, Linda, of Chambersburg, Daniel E. Swartz and his wife, Patricia, Philip D. Swartz and his wife, Carol, and Stephen D. Swartz, all of Tallahassee, Fla.; two siblings, Earl W. Ferster and his wife, Grace, of Selinsgrove, and Muriel A. Stouffer and her husband, Hubert, of Richfield; and she leaves behind eight grandchildren, Matthew Swartz, Angela Cales, Ryan Swartz, Jenna Swartz, Kristen Swartz, Jessica Atkinson, Justin Swartz and Kendall Swartz; and two great- grandchildren, Oathen Atkinson and Lily Atkinson.
Three brothers, Robert M. Ferster, Paul G. Ferster and Howard W. Ferster, and a daughter-in-law, Denise Swartz, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Swartz was a member of Richfield Mennonite Church, where she belonged to the Women’s Missionary Society. She was also a member of WCTU and the Gideon’s Auxiliary.
Miriam was a homemaker who enjoyed many things, including needle point, quilting, reading and playing games. Her strong faith and Christian devotion was evident in the many people and causes for which she prayed.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastors Aaron Benner, Paul Beech and Chandler Cutting officiating. Interment will follow in Richfield Union Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Richfield Mennonite Church.
