Joseph A. ‘Joe’ Miller

BELLEVILLE – Joseph A. “Joe” Miller, 83, of 223 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, formerly of Mount Union, died at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.

Mr. Miller was born on Sept. 7, 1929, in Allenport, Mount Union, a son of the late Charles E. and Mary E. (Headings) Miller.

He was united in marriage with A. Jane (Good) Miller on June 5, 1954, at Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union.

His wife survives, along with: their five children, Sherryl Yoder and husband, Paul, of Belleville, Karen Long and husband, Craig, of Mount Union, David Miller and wife, Linda, of Greeley, Colo., Jonathan Miller and wife, Martha, of Hutchinson, Kan., and Marilyn Benally and husband, Victor, of Ganado, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, Michael Yoder and wife, Maria, Michelle Sensenig and husband, Victor, Matthew Yoder and wife, Bobbi, Marc Yoder and wife, JaLisa, Stephanie Long, Stephen Long and wife, Kaylee, Joseph Long, Janet Long and fiance, Gideon Snyder, Tyler Miller, Kristofer Miller, Rachel Miller, Noah Miller, Jacob Miller, Timothy Benally and Abigail Benally; nine great-grandchildren, Natalie, Paul, Grant, Cade and Landon Yoder, Aaron, Lydia and Asher Sensenig, and Jadon Long; and two sisters, Leona Taylor, of Mount Union, and Juliet Culp, of Roaring Spring.

He was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Gladys Miller, Helen Homman, Clayton L. Miller, Alice Wilson, Chester “Jack” Miller and Effie Strauser.

Mr. Miller received his elementary education at Shirley Township Consolidated School. He was a 1947 graduate of Mount Union Area High School. He also completed a semester in milk testing at Pennsylvania State University.

He served two years of 1-W service at Norristown State Hospital.

Mr. Miller had worked at the Shirley Ayr Farms, Mount Union, and retired in 1991, from New Holland, after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union.

He was a member of the Big Valley Men’s Chorus, participated in the Mount Union Area Men’s Prayer Breakfast and was in the retiree club, “TGIR,” New Holland.

Mr. Miller enjoyed reading, gardening, landscaping and taking walks in the woods. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union, with Pastor Sonny Yoder officiating. A private interment service will take place in Otelia Mennonite Church Cemetery prior to the service.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. There will be no viewing Monday at the church.
