Eugene R. ‘Pete’ Tate

BELLEVILLE – Eugene R. “Pete” Tate, 85, of Belleville, formerly of rural Centre Hall, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Valley View Haven, in Belleville.

He was born Aug. 11, 1927, at Spring Mills, a son of the Richard Irvin and Ethel Harriet (Gentzel) Tate.

On April 16, 1949, he married the former Minerva Ellen Neff, who resides at Valley View Haven, in Belleville.

He took a flying course to obtain a commercial license and flight instructor rating. He enjoyed giving airplane rides at the Grange Fair for years.

Pete worked at Cerro Metals from 1946 to 1990, where he was a truck driver and laborer.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Union UCC Church, in Tusseyville, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and a World War II Army veteran.

In addition to his wife he is survived by: one daughter, Deborah Sue Frazier (Larry), of Centre Hall; three sisters, Joan Shawver (Robert), Jean Gilmore (Tom), both of Centre Hall, and Connie Saluter (Phil), of Florida; two grandchildren, Brad (Stephanie) Frazier, of Stephens City, Va., and Meghan Frazier, of Harrisburg; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Rachel Frazier.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Inez M. Pecht and Irene E. Garbrick.

A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, and Thursday, May 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Emmanuel Union Cemetery.
