E. Elroy ‘Pence’ Saner

THOMPSONTOWN-E. Elroy “Pence” Saner, 77, of Thompsontown, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at his home.

Born Sept. 1, 1935, in Evendale, he was a son of the late Ralph and Olive (Ferster) Saner.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary C. (Zook) Saner, whom he married Jan. 1, 1955; five children, Rick Saner and wife, Jeanette, Roger Saner and wife, Tami, Ralph “Buff” Saner, Shari Naylor and husband, Darrell, and David Saner and wife, Nancy, all of Thompsontown; four siblings, Donald Saner and wife, Loma, of Mifflintown, Charles Saner and wife, Shirley, of Thompsontown, Frank Saner and wife, Linda, of Mifflinburg, and Lois King and husband, Mark, of Port Royal; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Fae Ethel Saner.

He loved farming and was a dairy farmer for 25 years. He sold Growers Mineral Solution for 40 years and immensely enjoyed helping people get the best results from their land and livestock.

He was a member of Cedar Grove BIC Church and a former member of Lost Creek Mennonite and Delaware Mennonite churches.

He liked going to antique machinery shows and owned a Minneapolis Moline antique tractor. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmer’s Association. He enjoyed being at his camp by the river. But, his greatest joy was his family and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, with the Revs. Ken Hepner and Steve Munger officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

There will be a viewing held from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the church.
