David J. ‘Spike’ Spicher

BELLEVILLE – David J. “Spike” Spicher, 60, of 5 Charity Drive, Belleville, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at his home.

Born June 18, 1952, in Bellevile, he was a son of the late Jessie D. and Annie L. (Yoder) Spicher. His first wife, Arlene (Yoder) Spicher, preceded him in death on April 3, 2003. His second wife, Esther (Sharp) Spicher, whom he married on Nov. 24, 2005, survives.

He is survived by: children, Marlin J. Spicher and wife, Mary Ann, of Mifflin, Grace M. Beachy and husband, Gene, of Belleville, John W. Spicher, of Paraguay, and David J. “Sonny” Spicher Jr. and wife, Benita, of Huntingdon; grandchildren, Chavis, Denise, Jeffrey, Rebecca, Ciara, Caiden and Jordan Spicher and Dallas, Genea and Kylie Beachy; siblings, Naomi Yoder and husband, Aquilla, of Belleville, Anna Mae Yoder and husband, Noah, of Burgettstown, Susan Peachey and husband, Joe I., of Cuthbert, Ga., Mary Etta Miller and husband, Daniel, of Harrison, Ark., Abe L. Spicher and wife, Marlene, of Middlebury, Ind., Jesse Lee Spicher and wife, Ruth, of Belleville, Lois Kauffman and husband, Jesse M., of Belleville, Ruth Kauffman and husband, Joseph, of Belleville; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jenny Spicher, of Bethany Beach, Del., Everett Hostetler, of Sarasota, Fla., David S. Sharp and wife, Sara Ann, of Milroy, Sally Peight and husband, Edward, of Mount Union, Grace E. Sharp, of Belleville, Noah Sharp and wife, Viola, of Lewistown, Joe Sharp and wife, Martha, of Belleville, N.Y., and Dan Sharp and wife, Karen, of Belleville. David is also survived by Nora Yoder, who is an aunt to David and Arlene. She resides with David and Esther.

He was preceded in death by: a grandson, Arlin D. Spicher, on Jan. 23, 2001; a brother, Paul Spicher; a sister, Rhoda Hostetler; and a brother-in-law, John Sharp.

He most recently was a taxi driver for the Amish and sold Cen-Pe-Co products. Prior to that he drove truck for Kauffman Excavating.

David enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at Pleasant View Church, with Ministers David Byler, Melvin Roes and David J. Peachey officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the church.
