Charles E. ‘Charlie’ Harris III

MIFFLIN – Charles E. “Charlie” Harris III, 58, of Mifflin, died Monday, April 15, 2013, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 31, 1954, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles E. II and Irene (Hockenberry) Harris.

He is survived by: his wife, Sandra (Sheriff) Harris, whom he married July 4, 1976; four children, Sherry Simms and her fiance, Josh Bitz, of Mifflintown, Kathy Messimer and husband, Troy, of Mount Pleasant Mills, John Harris, of Mifflin, and Hunter Harris Kline, of Seven Stars; three sisters, Barbara Yetter, of Mifflin, Helen Watts, of New Oxford, and Virginia Haubert, of McAlisterville; one uncle, Tom Hockenberry, of Hawk Run; and one granddaughter, Cheyenne Messimer.

Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving at the end of the Vietnam War. He was retired on disability from Trinity Packaging.

He was a life member of Mifflin Fire Department and enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing and all other sports.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Mifflin, with Pastor Gay Irwin officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nook. Military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

There will be no viewing, but the family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
