Nila (Daughenbaugh) Geiger
PINE HARBOR, Ga., – Nila (Daughenbaugh) Geiger, 71, of Pine Harbor, Ga., died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick, Ga.
Born on Sept. 3, 1941, she was a daughter of her loving mother, Lulu S. (Shelley) Daughenbaugh, of Pine Harbor, Ga., and the late Paul E. “Pete” Daughenbaugh.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by: a sister, Gloria Ammerman, of Pine Harbor, Ga.; three aunts, Geraldine Leach, of Mifflin, Mary Cox, of Thompsontown, and Faye Shelley, of McAlisterville; two nieces, Debbie Jones, of Pine Harbor, Ga., and Kim (Farrell) Allen, of Marietta, Ga.; a nephew, Kenny (Kellie) Ammerman, of Newnan, Ga.; plus many Pennsylvania cousins. She is also survived by a special friend that she mentored for 10 years, Quaniqua Williams.
Having moved to the Georgia Coast from Fayetteville, Ga., Nila lived in Pine Harbor for the past 10 years. She was a true humanitarian, always willing to help others in her community and church, to which she volunteered much of her time. She was a member of Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church.
She graduated from Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio, and from West Georgia College, in Carrollton, Ga. with a Ph.D. She was a leader and mentor to students of Phi Beta Lambda. She retired from teaching at Griffin Tech, in Griffin, Ga., and then became an adjunct professor at the College of Coastal Georgia.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Pastor J. Arthur Mott officiating. Interment will follow in Niemond’s Cemetery, Richfield.
A viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday, at the funeral home.
