Mary Elizabeth Bilger
MILROY – Mary Elizabeth “Gram” Bilger, 88, of Milroy, died Wednesday Feb. 6, 2013, at the Lewistown Hospital emergency room.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1924, in Yeagertown, a daughter of the late John Ector and Emma N. J. (Rosenberry) Confer. Her husband, Earl Frederick Bilger, whom she married on Dec. 11, 1943, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by: her children, Bonnie J. Burggraf, of State College, Nancy J. (Keith) Bigelow, of Reedsville, Guy F. (Mary K.) Bilger, of Lewistown, John W. (Beatrice) Bilger, of Lewistown, Deborah E. (Fred) Ghaner, of Oceola Mills, Kathy A. (Don) Ross, of Coburn, and Samuel W. (Faith) Bilger, of Milroy; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great- grandchildren.
Mary also was preceded in death by: brothers, George F. Brannon Confer and Frank A. Confer; sister, Harriet M. Brannon Confer Borhman; two grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mary worked for many years as a waitress at the Boalsburg Steak House and retired from the Milroy Market where people frequently asked for her to make their sandwiches.
She attended school in Potters Mills.
Known as “Gram” by all, and Great Mimi by one, she enjoyed stories of her children and grandkids, family photos, the annual “Gram’s Picnic,” telling stories of her childhood, doing her puzzle books, spending time doing crafts, going on outings and being with her friends at Fountain Square Senior Citizens Center, and also the Grange Fair.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at E. K. Presbyterian Church, in Reedsville, with the Rev. Pat Roller officiating.
A commital service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Sprucetown United Methodist Cemetery, Upper Georges Valley Road, Spring Mills.
