Janet G. Auker
McALISTERVILLE – Janet G. Auker, 89, of Northridge Center, McAlisterville, and formerly of Mifflintown, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, in the emergency room of the Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Dec. 18, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Janet (Muir) Gardiner and a stepdaughter of the late Ida Gardiner. On Oct. 7, 1944, she married her husband, Jay S. Auker Jr., with whom she spent more than 62 years of marriage, before he preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2006.
She is survived by: two sons, Jay G. “Scott” Auker and his wife, Carole, of Mifflin, and John G. Auker and his wife, Kathy, of Mifflintown; one brother, John C. Gardiner and his wife, Rita, of Woburn, Mass.; two grandchildren, Marc S. Auker, of Lewistown, and Stephanie Auker, of Harrisburg; and one great-grandson, Marc J. Auker, of Lewistown.
Mrs. Auker was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church and was past member of the League of Women Voters, past member and chair of the Juniata County Republican Women, a former member of the Mifflintown Women’s Civic Club and had served as the Judge of Elections for Mifflintown Borough. She had also enjoyed singing in the choir for the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, and the Juniata County Choir, both under the direction of her late husband, Jay.
Janet was employed as a clerk for Beward’s Pharmacy, Mifflintown, for 38 years.
She was an avid reader, particularly of suspense novels and always enjoyed playing bridge with the ladies; but above all else, Janet was a people person who loved her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third Street, Lewistown, with the Rev. James Thomas officiating. Burial will be private, in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
There will be no viewing.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Auker’s memory to Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044, or to the Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
