Nelson R. Gillam

McVEYTOWN – Nelson R. Gillam, 69, of Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2013, at his home.

Born Sept. 11, 1943, in Oliver Township, he was a son of the late George Alton and F. Irene (Dunmire) Gillam. His wife, Janice C. (Varner) Gillam, whom he married March 26, 1965, survives.

Also surviving are: four children, Pamela Musser and husband, Daniel, of Lewistown, Sharon Galpal and husband, Richard, of Chula Vista, Calif., David Gillam and wife, Jean, of Hillsboro, Ohio, Kathy Gillam and partner, K. Wade Fisher, of McVeytown and Dade City, Fla.; a sister, June Peters and husband, William, of Alexandria; two sisters-in-law, Rose Gillam and Doris Gillam; a brother-in-law, Henry Wheeler; and three grandchildren, Tyler Dietz, Sierra Bollinger and Shauna Bollinger.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, Kenneth Gillam, Dorothy Wheeler, Marjorie Adams and LeRoy Gillam and a brother-in-law, Glen Adams.

Employed as a truck driver since 1963, he last drove for Class 1 Transport Inc., in McVeytown.

He was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon emeritus, trustee, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He also sang with the Dunmire Men’s Chorus and was a former trustee of Spring Run Cemetery.

Nelson loved his family and many friends over the years. His life was filled with helping others.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, 6712 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, with Pastors Craig and Kate Gandy officiating.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the church.

Private interment will be held in Spring Run Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, or to the Spring Run Cemetery, both at P.O. Box 333, McVeytown, PA 17051.
