May P. Long

MIFFLINTOWN – May P. Long, 98, of the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown, and formerly of McAlisterville, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Brookline.

Born on Sept. 13, 1914, in Monroe Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Lilly (Stuck) Gearhart. On Sept. 27, 1929, she married her husband, Glenn O. Long, with whom she spent nearly 76 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 5, 2005.

Surviving are: her children, Glenn J. Long, of Austin, Texas, Harold G. Long and his wife, Cassie, JoAnne E. Sellers and her husband, Delbert, and Larry L. Long, all of McAlisterville; a brother, Roy Gearhart, of Selinsgrove; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great- grandchildren.

Five brothers, William Gearhart, John Gearhart, Norman Gearhart, George Gearhart and Frank Gearhart, and four sisters, Mary Bishop, Pearl Naylor, Pauline Brown and Martha Varner, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Stony Run Mission, Evendale, where she served as church pianist for many years, and had volunteered as a gray lady for the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

In earlier life, May worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Meda Nipple Convalescent Home, Maze, and later at Brookline Manor until she retired in 1976.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Revs. Nicholas A. Smith and James A. Neimond Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Long’s memory may be made to Stony Run Mission at 2825 Evendale Hill Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
