Kathryn Z. Porpotage

LEWISTOWN – Kathryn Z. Porpotage, 87, of Old Stage Coach Road, Lewistown, peacefully and gently passed at 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Golden LivingCenter-William Penn.

Born June 22, 1925, in Alicia, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Mihalic) Zarkovich.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Porpotage, on Oct. 22, 1992, and all of her siblings, Anna Swift, Eva Fiorentino, Peter Zarkovich and Mary Drozda.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Michael M. Porpotage and wife, Dorothy, of Lewistown, Rita A. Norbury, of Fort Smith, Ark., Mary Lou M. Sigler, of Reedsville, and Joseph P. Porpotage, of Lewistown.

Also surviving are: her grandchildren, John Norbury of Fort Smith, Ark., Robert Porpotage and wife, Linda, of Lewistown, Jennifer Bandy and husband, Stephen, of Wister, Okla., James “Jake” Norbury (USN) of Honolulu, and Zac Sigler, of Reedsville; three great-grandchildren, Rhett Norbury, of Talihina, Okla., Tyler Blagg and Jorie Bandy, both of Wister, Okla.; a special member of the family, Frank Hoover, of Reedsville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathryn worked hard all her life and will be remembered by many for her excellent meals, prepared lovingly, not only for her family, but for anyone who happened to show up at mealtime. She always said, “There’s enough food for everybody.” And there always was!

In addition to being a homemaker, Kathryn worked at Cluett Peabody, The American Viscose Corporation, Peoples Drug Store, Jamesway, and Murphy’s Five and Dime, and most recently, until her final illness, for United Cerebral Palsy.

Having been an excellent student and a winning member of the debate team at Burhnam High School, Kathryn was proud to have completed her studies to receive a diploma later in life. She was also an avid basketball player.

Kathryn was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, in Lewistown.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Church, with Father William Weary officiating. Interment will be held in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, with a recitation of the Rosary at 8:30 p.m. at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown.
