John E. Sprout
LEWISTOWN – John E. Sprout, 91, formerly of Lewistown, died at 5:49 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Valley View, in Belleville.
Born on Oct. 15, 1921, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Samuel Clayton and Cora (Osborne) Sprout.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean L. (Miller) Sprout, whom he married on April 14, 1941, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are: his son, Gary L. Sprout and wife, Jo Ann, of Norwich, N.Y.; grandchildren, Stacey Knapp, of Mason, Ohio, and Kelly Willis of Norwich, N.Y.; and great-grandchildren, Brock Kossman of Norwich, N.Y., Drew Knapp and Trey Knapp of Mason, Ohio.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a maintenance man for MCIDC and prior to that worked at American Viscose Corp. retiring in Sept. 1982, with 32 years of service.
John was a member of First United Methodist Church, AARP and Act WU Retirees.
He enjoyed football, especially the Steelers and Penn State, gardening, and being outside.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment with VFW Post 7011 honors will be held in St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
