Fred R. Toner

LEWISTOWN – Fred R. Toner, 86, of 612 S. Grand St., Lewistown, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Oct. 20, 1926, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late James and Mable (Burlew) Toner.

He is survived by: his wife, Nancy (Smiley) Toner, whom he married on July 23, 1955; his children, Debra Altiery, of Lewistown, and Gary Toner and wife, Deborah, of Point Pleasant, N.J.; grandchildren, Kelli Burd and husband, Robert, Kimberly Stutsman and husband, Brian, Keith Altiery and wife, Heidi, Olivia Toner and Jake Toner; and great- grandchildren, Andrew, Tanner, Christian, Eric, Luke and Adriana.

He was preceded in death by: his brothers, Charles, James, Richard, Raymond and Robert Toner; his sister, Dorothy Barr; and an infant brother.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II on the USS Douglas A. Munro.

Early in life, Fred was employed at the American Viscose Corporation in Lewistown as an auto mechanic and then worked as a mechanic at the Lewistown Hospital, retiring in 1990.

Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, fixing things and was a dog lover. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., with Pastor Michael Bailey officiating. Interment will be held in Juniata Memorial Park with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home.
