Ellen L. Apple
McALISTERVILLE – Ellen L. Apple, 91, of McAlisterville, died at 9:27 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at her home.
Born Aug. 26, 1921, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Clayton H. and Minnie (Brubaker) Lauver. On June 4, 1944, she married her husband, Glenn F. Apple, with whom she shared more than 54 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1999.
Surviving are: her children, Darwin G. Apple and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Richfield, Donna J. Saner and her husband, Harold, of McAlisterville, and Elaine K. Auker and her husband, Delmar, of Thompsontown; a sister, Bessie Frymoyer, of Mifflintown; eight grandchildren, Jeffery Apple, Bryan Apple, Jennifer Maneval, Emily Morse, Carolyn Lyter, Kimberly Tusing, Sean Auker and Erin Robinson; as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Chester Lauver, Raymond Lauver, and Clayton Lauver and three sisters, Anna Saner, Elizabeth Yoder and Ruth Graybill preceded her in death.
Mrs. Apple was a member of Delaware Mennonite Church, in East Salem. She loved bird watching and playing the harmonica; however, her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always looked forward to going out to eat with her family, especially to her favorite restaurant, the Bread of Life.
Ellen worked as an aid at the Selinsgrove Center for 17 years until retiring in 1981.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from the Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown, with Pastor Glenn Hosler officiating. Interment will follow in the Lauver’s Mennonite Cemetery, Evendale.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the church.
