Betty J. Phillips

McALISTERVILLE – Betty J. Phillips, 87, of McAlisterville, died at 7:59 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 21, 1925, in Spring Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Hurley R. and Maude (Kempher) Thomas. On April 5, 1946, she married her late husband, Roy A. “Tom” Phillips, with whom she shared more than 49 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1995.

Surviving are: son, Alton D. Phillips and wife, Kay, of Beaver Springs; sister, Irene Hetrick, of Beaver Springs; and a granddaughter, Molly Bogar and husband, Matthew, of Ashburn, Va.

Two brothers, Robert S. Thomas and William R. Thomas, and a sister, Ethel P. Waite, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Phillips was a 1944 graduate of Beaver Vocational High School. She also was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, where she was a member of the Willing Workers.

In earlier life, she worked for Westinghouse, of Sunbury, and later worked for Fitzgerald’s Restaurant, of Beaver Springs, after which she worked as a presser for L. Shellenberger, Lyons Fashions, both of McAlisterville, and Miss Fashionality, of East Salem.

Betty loved flowers and tending to her flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and was always ready to help others.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Erin Bovendam officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.

Viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.

The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly asks that memorial donations in Mrs. Phillips’ memory be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 15, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
