Planting the seeds of faith

PROFESSIONS OF FAITH

Yesterday was quite a busy day on the farm, to say the least. As I collapsed into bed last night, I thought back over the day. It was a typical day, or should I say atypical?

I had much weeding to do in the garden and yard, after weddings and graduations — much catch up. And I paid for it. This morning, I have poison up my arms, and I don’t usually get poison. I got splinters in the hands and feet, and even a piece of glass in my big toe. I woke up, again, with itchy eyes and am convinced I have pinkeye. My back hurts from all the bending — and yet — it was a glorious day!

Did I mention that we built fence and released calves into the pasture, only to have them run straight through the newly-built fences and put us on a wild chase to get them back in? You can ask any of my children — this is when we see dad go from the nice man that he is, to — well — enough said about that!

It’s what we farmers do, and it makes little sense to the world why we wouldn’t just go to Walmart and buy our food. Think about it, friends — if we farmers weren’t faithful in what we do, how would the rest of the world eat? So, no matter how beat up I get doing the work I do, I love what we do here on the farm and wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Being faithful to what we do as Believers in Jesus Christ Romans 10:8-11, 13 says: The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach) that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. Whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.

The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.Tell me, who will speak it to a dying world, if not us? How can a lost soul find God, unless we tell them? Before they call on the name of the LORD, they must believe, and how can they believe, unless they hear? The Word is in your mouth and in your heart. Will you be faithful to tell someone today? It’s a gamble, I know. Just like farming. We can plant our crops and believe it will be a great harvest year, but we do that on faith. We, as Christians, are called to plant the seeds of faith in others, believing those seeds will take root and grow to be “oaks of righteousness” before God, but that’s not up to us. God is Lord of the Harvest — both on the farm and in the Spirit world. How will they know unless we tell them?

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness to us. We mess up, and we don’t deserve the grace and mercy and love you give us. Help us today, Lord, to be faithful to pass that on to someone who crosses our path — maybe even someone we believe would be the least interested in you. The Word is in our mouth and in our heart. Help us share it. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
