WAR set to visit Millerstown church

MILLERSTOWN – Women at Risk International will visit Millerstown United Methodist Church from 2-5 p.m. today. The church is located on the corner of High and Greenwood streets.

Guests will have the opportunity to learn about domestic and global human trafficking and shop jewelry and other handmade gifts crafted by rescued and at-risk women.

A brief presentation will be made at 2 p.m., and the event will be open to shoppers until 5 p.m. Refreshments are available.

Bluegrass concert to be held in Belleville

BELLEVILLE – The 36th annual Big Valley Bluegrass Gospel Concert and Ice Cream Social will be held at 6 p.m. today on the lawn at Belleville Mennonite School, 4105 Front Mountain Road, Belleville. Music will be provided by Dry Bones Revival, a local bluegrass band led by Randy French; Bluegrass Redemption, from Centre County; the sons of the Henry Werner family, of Lancaster County; and Keeping it Simple, from Perry County.

Ice cream and homemade desserts will be served during an intermission between performances.

A free-will offering will be collected to cover expenses. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a homemade dessert. If it rains, the event will be moved inside.

Freedom Festival set for Siglerville church

SIGLERVILLE – The second annual Freedom Festival and church service is set to be held Sunday at White Memorial Congregational Church, in Siglerville. A worship service will be held from 9:30-11 a.m., with Scott Hill speaking about religion in the revolution. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., a meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, desserts and drinks will be served at no charge. Revolutionary re-enactors will perform throughout the afternoon. Children’s colonial games and drills are set for 1-2:30 p.m., and a musical program by R.B. Powell and The Unusual Suspects will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. Call Harriet E. BEAVERTOWN – The Orthodox Chapel of the Holy Spirit will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony at 12:15 p.m. Sunday at 145 N. Kern St., Beavertown, in anticipation of building its new church. The Rev. John Reeves, of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in State College, will preside at the service. Light refreshments will be served after the service at 350 Old Orchard Drive, Beavertown.

Summer day camp set for Mifflintown

MIFFLINTOWN – A summer day camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily July 6-10 at Centre Lutheran Church, Mifflintown. Camp is sponsored by the church, in partnership with Camp Mount Luther. Kids who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade are welcome. Staff from Camp Mount Luther and church volunteers will host games, sports, Bible study, singing, crafts and worship. Missions day set for First Baptist church

MIFFLINTOWN – Missions Conference Day is set to be held July 19 at First Baptist Church of Juniata County, located on route 35 in Mifflintown.

At 8 a.m. and 10:15 p.m., missionaries Mark and Angie Holloman with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism in Jordan, will present. A missionary moment will be given by Jennifer McDonald, of the Mifflin/Juniata/Perry counties chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship.

There will be adult Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. in the auditorium. Paul Beech, with Beech/Keys Ministries will speak. At 7 p.m., the Hollomans will update guests on their ministry in Jordan.

LEWISTOWN – A chalk talk ministry and charge picnic will be held on Sept. 13 in the green pavilion at Kish Park. The event is being held by the Yeagertown and Rhodes Memorial United Methodist churches.

Donuts and coffee will be served at 10 a.m., and the chalk talk presentation will begin at 11 a.m. A tureen meal will be served at noon.

Churches collaborate for 2015 Faith Festival

LEWISTOWN – Meet, greet and eat with people from local churches during the Faith Festival set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Rec Park in Lewistown. The event is sponsored by the Lewistown Ministerium.

Area churches will set up booths and provide news of their congregation’s Sunday services and activities, as well as upcoming vacation Bible schools. A bounce house, pony rides, ‘Tootles the Clown’ and children’s games will be offered. Food such as meatball sandwiches, walking tacos, popcorn, ice cream, fried dough, funnel cakes and baked goods will be available. Live music will include Lewistown Community Band and gospel singer Bernard Carpenter. Admission is free.

CENTRE HALL – The Covalt’s 20th annual Outdoor Gospel Sing is set to be held June 10-14 at the Centre County Fairgrounds, 169 Homan Lane, Centre Hall.

The following groups will be featured:

June 10 – 7 p.m., the Needhams and the Covalts;

June 11 – 7 p.m., Randy Simpson and the Covalts;

June 12 – 7 p.m., Weaver Believers and the Covalts.

Gospel sings begin at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday of the event. Groups appearing include Tony Bates, Fishers, Segers, Penns Valley Men’s Chorus, Victory Express, Last Generation and more.
