Church celebrates July 4
SIGLERVILLE – The White Memorial Congregational Church celebrated the Fourth of July on July 6 with a special program.
A morning service began with singing one verse of the National Anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Lord’s Prayer in unison. The Rev. James A. Yoder gave the sermon “No Freedom Without Faith.”
Additionally, the church choir and congregation sang songs such as “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” by Julia Ward Howe.
Mick Abrashoff showed a DVD entitled “Faith of Our Fathers,” which illustrated how the Christian faith inspired founders to draft the Declaration of Independence and ultimately form the U.S. government.
Before leaving the service, the congregation joined in singing “God Bless America.”
A picnic was provided after the service by members and friends of the church.
Another special event is scheduled to be held next year in celebration of the country’s 239th birthday.
