Diocese to install Gainer as 11th bishop of Harrisburg

HARRISBURG -Two services will mark the installation of Bishop Ronald W. Gainer as the 11th bishop of Harrisburg.

According to a press release from the Diocese of Harrisburg, a solemn vespers service is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m. March 18 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd., Harrisburg. A Mass of installation will take place at 2 p.m. March 19 at St. Patrick Cathedral, 212 State St., Harrisburg. The Mass will be a ticketed event.

The eve of the Mass is a significant time for prayer, the release states. The vespers service will be open to the public and provide an opportunity for faithful prayer with Gainer. The service will consist of hymns, psalms, Bible readings and prayers.

The vespers service is expected to be streamed live on the diocesan website, www.hbgdiocese.org.

Gainer will be installed as the 11th bishop of Harrisburg on March 19 at St. Patrick Cathedral, the release states. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, of Philadelphia, will preside over the installation. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the papal representative to the United States, along with numerous catholic bishops and clergy from around the country are expected to take part. Significant attendance of clergy is expected from the diocese of Harrisburg, Lexington, Allentown and Philadelphia. Representatives of local parishes and ministries also will be invited, the release states.

Prayer resources for both services are expected to be available on the diocesan website to assist with prayer at home during the services.
