Mifflintown man charged with assault

MEXICO — Milton Lopez-Melara, 37, of Mifflintown, currently facing eight sexually-based offenses, was arraigned Tuesday for four new counts after exposing himself and initiating sexual contact with a minor.

Court documents state Lopez-Melara exposed his genitals to a minor in 2018, then forced the minor to touch him. The minor also told police Lopez-Melara grabbed the youth’s chest and backside.

In May, Lopez-Melara was charged with forcible rape, rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, indecent deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors after police received a report that he engaged in unwanted sexual encounters with the same minor.

Regarding the most recent allegation, Lopez-Melara was charged with one felony count corruption of minors and three misdemeanor counts indecent assault in June, court documents state. Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline Leister set bail at $50,000 and Lopez-Melara was committed to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post the bail set. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 20.
