Mifflin County crashes lead to traffic snarls

Officials: One flown from scene of crash near McVeytown

LEWISTOWN — Two separate traffic accidents Friday afternoon caused delays along two major highways through Mifflin County.

The first crash occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. along U.S. 522 in Oliver Township and involved three vehicles. At least one person was flown from the scene.

Traffic was delayed during cleanup as the highway was down to one open lane of travel.

Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown is investigating that crash and no further information was available as of press time Friday.

The second crash occurred approximately one hour later near the Burnham interchange of U.S. 322, causing the eastbound lanes of the highway to be shut down entirely. The highway reopened at 6:19 p.m., according to the Mifflin County Communications Center.

Four vehicles were involved in that incident. Mifflin County Regional Police Department is investigating that accident and no further information was available as of press time Friday.
