Independence Day fireworks display fundraising begins
LEWISTOWN — The Independence Day fireworks display will be launched from a new location this year in downtown Lewistown.
This year’s event is slated for 9:30 p.m. June 29, with a rain date of June 30. The show will last one half hour.
Rhonda S. Moore, executive director of the Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release that the fireworks will be launched at Rec Park, across the street from the Giant grocery store parking lot on South Dorcas Street.
“Viewing opportunities will be spectacular and up-close viewing can be done using the large bank near the baseball fields, or the football fields at the other end of the park,” she said.
The cost for this year’s show is $15,000. “This is, as you can imagine, a major undertaking. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, organizations and individuals, this amazing Independence Day celebration can be enjoyed by thousands right here at home,” Moore said. “This truly is a precious gift that our sponsors provide to their community. Let’s help our families create lasting memories.”
