Jam sessions set at Four Seasons center

MIFFLINTOWN –Four Seasons Senior Center is hosting a jam session on Friday in the River Church Community Room (formerly known as the CJEMS Building).

The kitchen opens at 5 p.m., Country Boy will play at 6 p.m., and a general jam session begins at 6:30 p.m.

East Juniata set for ‘Bye Bye Birdie’

McALISTERVILLE –East Juniata High School will hold its musical, “Bye Bye Birdie,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a snow date of Sunday.

Tickets will be available for $5 at the door.

Famous battle topic of film at museum

BOALSBURG — Between September 1944 and February 1945, U.S. Army forces fought for control of a 50 square mile area of dense forest along the Belgium/German border. It was the longest single battle in American history and the largest defeat of the U.S. Army in Europe.

The documentary film “You Enter Germany – Bloody Huertgen & the Siegfried Line,” will be featured at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg.

Community band to perform on April 4

LEWISTOWN –The Lewistown Community Band, under the direction of Peter Marsh, has begun rehearsing in preparation for its 28th summer season.

Rehearsals take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church, corner of West Third and North Main streets, Lewistown.

This organization is an opportunity for post high school adults to keep music and the skills acquired alive and add to the pleasure of the communities served. New members are always welcome. No auditions are needed.

The band’s first concert will be fundraising benefit for Friends of Mifflin County Library and will be presented at 7 p.m. on April 4 at Mifflin County Middle School.

Belleville antique show is April 5-6

BELLEVILLE — The Belleville Civic Club is planning the 49th Antique Show and Sale for April 5 and 6.

Plans begin right after the Christmas holiday and continue until the show opens at the Belleville Community Hall, 11 Walnut St., Belleville.

The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 5, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 6. There will be a variety of antiques that can be purchased, as well as food from the kitchen.

Proceeds from the show help the club support many community projects. Last year the club made donations to the new clinic, the new thrift store being built, the meat canning Project, the Kish Valley Historical Society and other projects.

Little Buffalo plans Spring Volunteer Day

NEWPORT –Little Buffalo State Park will hold its annual Spring Volunteer Day from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. on April 13 in the East Area of the park. Meet at Pavilion 3.

Projects will include trail maintenance, gardening, trash clean up and mill work.

Festival in the Park to be held on May 18

MIFFLINTOWN — The second Festival in the Park in Mifflintown is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 18 at Myers Park (Mifflintown playground) adjacent to the Juniata County Library.

This year’s event will include music, art, food and plenty of activities for kids including a petting zoo and bounce castle.

The Juniata County Library will remain open through the close of the festival, and will offer door prizes and activities for children.

Festival organizers are seeking business donations to cover this year’s festival expenses.

Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 471, Mifflin, PA 17058, with checks made payable to Festival in the Park.

Courses added at Juniata Co. Library

MIFFLINTOWN — The Lifelong Learning Courses being offered in the Virginia Swartz Room in the lower level at the Juniata County Library for winter and spring include the following.

¯ Comparative Religions Course (six sessions), Tuesdays through April 9, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., $10 per session.

≤ Create Ukrainian Easter Pysanky (one session), 5-9 p.m. March 27, $20 per person, space is limited. All tools will be supplied for this “make and take.”

¯ How to Use an iPhone (two sessions), April 8 and 15, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., $10 per session (pick which sessions to attend).

≤ What is Yoga? (two sessions), 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 22 and April 29; $10 per class. Join Kim Imes, a certified group fitness instructor and teacher at the Fayette Area Lion’s Den, for a two-session beginner yoga course.

LEWISTOWN–The Mifflin County Historical Society’s Research Library has resumed normal hours.

The office, located in the Mifflin County Historic Courthouse in Lewistown, is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
