Fred Keller selected as GOP nominee

Keller and Friedenberg vie for Tom Marino’s seat

From staff reports

WILLIAMSPORT–The Pennsylvania Republican Party selected Fred Keller on Saturday to run as the GOP candidate in May’s special election to replace U.S. Congressman Tom Marino.

Representative Marino announced his resignation just weeks after the beginning of his fifth term in Congress in January, prompting several potential candidates to express interest in filling his seat for the 12th Congressional District.

Keller was selected out of 14 candidates, Saturday, in Williamsport, to run against Democratic nominee Marc Friedenberg later this year. Once elected, the chosen official will serve the remainder of Marino’s term until January 2021.

“Fred Keller is the kind of principled, conservative leader needed for the 12th Congressional District,” said Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Val DiGiorgio in a press release. “I have no doubt that Fred will go to Congress and be a strong voice for north-central Pennsylvania, an ally of President Donald Trump, and stand up to the likes of Nancy Pelosi and the increasingly-socialist left.”

Keller, 53, of Snyder County, is a businessman and fifth-term state House member, representing part of Snyder County. He stated in his original candidacy announcement that he plans to put the interests of the Commonwealth, and the nation, first if elected on May 21.

“I have a proven record of working hard to grow Pennsylvania’s economy and attract jobs, standing up for taxpayers, promoting agriculture and tirelessly supporting local families and businesses. I’ll work just as hard in Washington,” Keller stated. “I’ll work to secure our borders and promote economic and tax policies that help families and small businesses. I’ll support our military and promote a foreign policy that puts America first.”

Keller has been married to his wife, Kay, for 34 years and they have two adult children, Jamie and Freddie, and two granddaughters.
