Academy to offer hair cuts for job seekers
LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology is has partnered with PA CareerLink Mifflin County to provide shampoo and haircuts, free of charge to adult jobseekers. These services will be provided by cosmetology students at the school, upon receipt of the Job Fair 2019 Haircut Voucher.
Vouchers for free shampoo/haircuts are available in the following locations: Shelter Services Thrift Shop, Mifflin County Assistance Office, Mifflin County Library, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard at St Mark’s Episcopal Church and PA CareerLink Mifflin County.
“By making vouchers available through human service agencies, we hope to reach jobseekers who may benefit from the mental boost a new haircut provides,” says Cher Harpster, business services consultant, at PA CareerLink Mifflin County.
Walk-in customers with vouchers can visit The Academy, 700 Pitt St, Lewistown, during any of the following times:

“Our students are looking forward to helping the community through this partnership,” said Christine Matthews, cosmetology instructor at the academy. “Not only do the students get the experience of more live work, but they also know how much confidence a fresh hair cut can provide to the job seekers.”
The Job Fair itself is being coordinated by PA CareerLink Mifflin County and will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 10 at the Rec Park Community Center, 108 Montgomery Avenue, Lewistown. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for U.S. military veterans. More than 30 employers, from manufacturing, healthcare, education, retail, and construction industry sectors will be present for job seekers looking to change careers, find a better job, get a fresh start or explore employment options. The Job Fair is free and open to the public.
