School board approves change orders

MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata County School District Board of Directors approved a number of change orders at its voting meeting Thursday night.

¯A $7,285.10 change order for the installation of a center court graphic and stencil in the gym and infill of existing walk-off mat recess in preparation of the installation of flooring at the west entrance of East Juniata Elementary School.

¯A $2,054.28 change order for modification of elevator pit lighting and the addition of protective guards for lighting controls and exit signs in the multipurpose room at East Juniata Elementary School.

¯A $4,902 change order for the installation of rain leaders from the kitchen/cafeteria roof at Juniata Elementary School.

¯A $14,023.73 change order for installation of a vegetable sink in the kitchen, patching of restroom walls, the addition of chases to conceal plumbing piping in classrooms, replacement of hardware for classroom closet doors and installation of face block in toilet room to accommodate ADA-compliant grab bars at Juniata Elementary School.

¯A $10,560 change order for playground pavement modification at Juniata Elementary School.

¯A $1,380 change order for installation of fire protection/sprinkler system under the stairs at Juniata Elementary School.

¯A $3,526 change order for the addition of a center court graphic in the gym at Juniata Elementary School.

The board also approved:

¯Payment of bills for November and December. Board member Troy Woodward was not in favor of the board action.

¯Established a student discipline policy committee.

The following personnel changes were approved:

¯The resignation of Manuel Lopez, Juniata Elementary School part-time custodian.

¯The termination of custodians Cheryl Shearer and Gregory Bell.

¯The appointment of Amanda Shelley as Juniata Elementary School lead teacher.

¯Adjusted the hourly rate for part-time custodian Jeffrey Keefer from $11.63 to $13.81.

¯Rescinded board action to suspend the employment of Laura Renninger and approve her continued employment as Tuscarora Junior High School special education teacher.

¯Transferred East Juniata High School emotional support teacher Julie Hannon to learning support teacher.

¯Transferred East Juniata High School learning support teacher Rachael Lamey to the position of emotional support teacher.

¯Transferred Juniata High School English teacher Emily Wagner to secondary library librarian.

¯Hired Thomas Shank as substitute custodian and Paula Kepner, Sharon Mingle and Rita Shupe as substitute teachers.

¯Hired Gerald Stahl as part-time Juniata Elementary School custodian at an hourly rate of $11.63.

¯Hired Daisy Yetter as part-time Juniata Elementary School custodian at an hourly rate of $14.54.

¯Hired Preston Fosselman as part-time East Juniata Elementary School custodian at an hourly rate of $11.63.

¯Hired Megan Freed as East Juniata Elementary School level 1 paraprofessional at an hourly rate of $11.37.

¯Hired Karen Joya as a translator/interpreter at $15 per hour.

¯Hired Maisie Aumiller, special education teacher on a bachelor’s degree, step 2 salary schedule.

¯Hired Catherine Durst, long-term substitute special education teacher on a bachelor’s degree, step 1 salary schedule.

The board also approved the establishment of a district air rifle team.
