Borough turns to community to name new truck
LEWISTOWN — Garbage trucks, roll out.
Lewistown Borough recently purchased a new, 2018 International Chassis garbage truck and the vehicle is taking to the streets today with a special, community selected name — Optimus Grime.
Inspired by “Optimus Prime,” the lead transformer in the popular “Transformers” franchise, the name was selected after the borough hosted a “Name that Truck” contest on the borough Facebook page. The contest garnered over 600 engagements and numerous name submissions throughout its run, with the following names selected as the five finalists:
– Land “Phil” Collins
– Forrest Dump
– Optimus Grime
According to Lewistown Borough Refuse Supervisor Ben Rager, borough residents then had the opportunity to vote on the names they liked best and Optimus Grime “won in a landslide.”
Rager also added that due to the popularity of the contest, the borough decided to name its two other garbage trucks after the second and third place name winners, Forrest Dump and Oscar. The winning names are now displayed on the side of each truck.
Optimus Grime will replace a 2004 International truck that Rager reported had over 100,000 miles on it and the equivalent of 1,000,000 engine hours. The new truck was purchased in order to increase refuse efficiency and decrease the amount of time spent on truck maintenance.
“We have a fiduciary responsibility to spend resident’s money wisely,” Rager noted. “This is the first of a number of planned upgrades to the borough of Lewistown’s fleet of vehicles.”
