Man charged for sexual assault

MIDDLEBURG — A Middleburg man had a preliminary arraignment Friday before Magisterial District Judge Lori Hackenberg, after having been charged Nov. 13 with five felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years old, regarding alleged incidents that occurred more than 21 years ago, according to court documents.

Documents state that Claude E. Sprenkel, 67, reportedly engaged in sexual activities with a minor from 1992 to 1997. The accuser told police in September that Sprenkel had given instruction on how to perform sexual acts on him and had the accuser perform those acts on him at a time range from when the accuser was 7 years old until the age of 12, court documents indicate.

Police interviewed Sprenkel in October, who admitted to the reported sexual activities and advised the investigating officer that the accuser had performed sexual acts on him five separate times and that he had sexually touched the accuser four times, according to court documents.

Sprenkel faces a total of 20 criminal counts, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, voluntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors and indecent assault. Documents indicate that Sprenkel was committed to Snyder County Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail, however a bond for Sprenkel was posted later the same day. Sprenkel is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 14.
