Board given building updates
MIFFLINTOWN — Construction for Juniata and East Juniata elementary schools is “coming together nicely,” Juniata County School District Superintendent Keith Yarger told the board at its workshop meeting on Wednesday.
The board was provided with a brief construction update and a rundown of change orders that will be approved at the board’s voting meeting next week.
Yarger said elementary students will be taking a tour of the new buildings in early December, before they take to their new classrooms in January.
Jeff Harris, of Reynolds Construction, noted that some change orders include changes to the playground at Juniata Elementary School, cleaning a stormwater pipe at East Juniata Elementary School and demolition at both elementary schools.
Change orders are among items that will be included on the agenda at next week’s meeting.
Harris also said there are funds available to assist in the cost of moving furniture to the remodeled schools. He noted that about 6,000 boxes of teacher contents, as well as furniture will need to be moved the week before Christmas.
Also at the meeting, Ethan Jamison, a senior at East Juniata High School discussed his accomplishments while competing in Extemporaneous Speech at the National Future Farmers of America competition in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jamison won the silver metal after competing with students from Harvard and Purdue university’s, he said.
