Woman pleads not guilty to forgery, theft

MIDDLEBURG — Jane Kratzer, of Beavertown, entered a not guilty plea on Monday and was formally arraigned by Judge Michael Sholley.

Kratzer, 51, was charged with one count forgery and one count theft by deception in July after making several transactions totaling $5,025.95 using information from a check written to her daughter from the accuser’s checking account, according to court documents. The accuser told police that Kratzer’s daughter was issued a $25 check in November 2017.

Documents state the transactions made by Kratzer using the accuser’s checking account included seven payments to a propane company, payments to various other service providers and to a retailer, all of which the accuser reported were fraudulent. According to court documents, when police interviewed Kratzer, she admitted to her actions and completed a written statement.

Kratzer was advised of her pre-trial rights and encouraged to apply for legal representation by the Public Defender. Kratzer is scheduled to appear at the next plea court session/pre-trial conference date.
