Police: Man makes threat with handgun

BLAIN — Two people were arrested following an domestic incident involving a child custody disagreement on Sept. 13 on Horse Valley Road in Toboyne Township, Perry County.

According to a report from Pennsylvania State Police Newport, officers were dispatched for a report of an active domestic incident at approximately 1 p.m. on Sept. 13. Carrie Lee Tyson, 42, of East Waterford, reportedly discovered that her mother, Leslie Curley, 60, of East Waterford, was granted emergency child custody of Tyson’s 9-year-old child. Following the discovery, the child’s feather, Jamie Paul Hawkins, 41, of East Waterford, and Gary Kenny, 59, of French Creek, W.Va., allegedly picked up the child from school and drove back to the family’s residence, where the child was advised to pack their personal belongings.

The report further stated that the youth ran inside the home and reported to Curley that Tyson and Hawkins were attempting to take them away. A dispute reportedly followed, during which Tyson attempted to pull the child away from Curley. Hawkins also reportedly displayed a handgun, threatening Curley and stating that he wasn’t leaving without the child. After unsuccessfully removing the child, Tyson and Hawkins attempted to flee the residence, however both were intercepted by officers who were responding to the scene.

Both Tyson and Hawkins were taken into custody following the incident. A search of the residence and the arrestees’ vehicles also lead officers to the discovery of drug paraphernalia at the scene.

Tyson was later charged with interference with custody and harassment, but was released on bail.

Hawkins was charged with interference with custody, terroristic threats and simple assault and was retained in the Perry County Prison after being unable to post bail.
